“Two roads diverged in a wood and I – I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference”
- Robert Frost
How is it that a high school science teacher is an expert in the mortgage industry? Well, as Robert Frost declared, my path is one that’s less traveled and it has made all the difference on how I teach physics and astronomy, but also help colleagues with financial advice. I have always enjoyed working with numbers and in 1993 I had an opportunity to enter the mortgage industry. I learned how the real estate industry works to benefit home ownership, how banks finance real estate transactions, and help clients grow their assets via real estate. In 1996, I started my own mortgage company to help clients increase their net worth through real estate. Clients ranged from first time home buyers to commercial developers expanding their real estate portfolios.
Nine years later, after training numerous employees and running workshops, I sold the company to change careers. After experiencing the power of educating people, I decided to go back to school and began studying physics and astronomy. Once I received my degrees, I began teaching high school science in 2007. In 2009, I began working at my old high school (replacing one of my retiring teachers!) and have been there ever since.
Because of my dual backgrounds, I helped many educators navigate the tumultuous waters of mortgage financing to ensure that no one was taking advantage of them. I also advised my colleagues on how to use real estate as an investment tool that added to their net worth over time. I was also active in our local union and joined the leadership for over seven years, including being president for three (during the Pandemic!). My experiences have taught me that educators do not get the support and advice one should have to make the most of their career, salaries, and real estate.
Like all of us in education, my goals in real estate finance are clearcut: To ensure fairness and respect for every client, to ‘demystify’ complex subjects, and to establish a partnership to “help get you through the material.” I promise that GoAhead Finance will walk every client through the mortgage process to ensure clarity, give timely feedback on submitted material, and become a long-term partner for all your mortgage needs… Just like we all do for students as educators.
I look forward to helping you!
